Scheduling

How are appointments scheduled?

Our scheduling is one of the most misunderstood parts of our service. While we would love to give you an exact time when you can expect us to arrive, the nature of what we do is somewhat unpredictable. In order to give each customer the attention they deserve, we schedule our repair calls in blocks as follows:

  • First Call: 8am-9am; what we consider a "first call", this is typically the first appointment of the day. This is the earliest, and most exact timing we can offer. If you need to know when we will show up, this is the time slot for you! Unfortunately these fill up the fastest, so the sooner you call us the better! Dispatch will call you on the day of service for approval prior to dispatching a technician.
  • AM Call: 8am-12pm; considered our "AM or Second Call" this will ensure our technician arrives to your house before 12pm on the scheduled day. Sometimes the arrival can be as early as 8am, if the technician has a 'first call' reschedule. Dispatch will call you on the day of service for approval prior to dispatching a technician.
  • PM Call: 12pm-6pm; what we term an "Afternoon or PM Call", these are going to be appointments that we are guaranteed to arrive after 12pm on the scheduled day. While this is one of the larger time windows we offer, we can also contact you remotely and allow you up to 30 minutes advance notice to prevent you from being tied to your home waiting on the technician during that time period. Dispatch will call you on the day of service for approval prior to dispatching a technician.
  • Last Call: 4pm-6pm; this slot is only available with dispatcher authorization. We usually reserve these slots for emergency calls with medical or special needs and fill them on an as-needed basis only.
  • Open Call: 8am-6pm; once our normal blocks are filled we also have what we call an "Open Call" which means as we dispatch technicians throughout the day, when one becomes free in your area, we'll send him your way. The downside to this scheduling is that we aren't always exactly sure what time of day that will be. The good news is that with today's mobile phone technology, we can offer you advance notice to allow you time to get home to meet the technician.

Do you offer smaller time frames or scheduling windows?

Due to the unpredictable nature of service repairs, our time frames are designed to allow sufficient time to repair a given problem without making multiple trips to your home or office. While these repairs can sometimes exceed the allotted window for completion, often times our technicians are efficient enough to finish with time to spare- allowing us to get to the next customer that much quicker.

Does Fox offer online scheduling?

Unfortunately we do not offer online scheduling options at this time, but we are working on adding this functionality to our website as soon as possible.

About Our Service Call Fees

Do you charge a fee to show up and diagnose the problem?

Yes, we do charge a service call fee of $73 to cover the costs of getting a state licensed technician and fully stocked truck to come to your home and provide an estimate for the repair. All repairs will be quoted and approved by the homeowner before any work begins. However, if repairs are approved by the customer then the $73 service call fee is waived.

If I am quoted a price and later approve the job, do I pay a second service call fee?

No. The service call fee is only applicable on the first trip; subsequent trips to fix the problem are included at no additional service call costs to you.

Do you provide free estimates?

We provide free estimates on HVAC system installations and retrofits. We do provide second opinions on HVAC repairs or replacements free of charge, as long as the competitors diagnosis is presented in writing to the Fox technician.  Some estimates, like ceiling fan and water heater installations, can be provided over the phone at no cost and presented as fully installed prices, including parts, labor and municipal permitting as needed.

Air Conditioning Services

Do you service window units?

Window units are considered appliances and are not something Fox repairs as a service.

Will you change filters on my air conditioning or heating systems?

Yes, we will change HVAC system filters if specifically requested, though this should be noted as not part of our standard maintenance services. Please note due to the wide variety of filter types and sizes, this may require a parts trip to get the right filters which is subject to additional charges.

Can you recommend an alternate HVAC service company?

We apologize for not being able to service you in the time frame you needed. Unfortunately, since we have no control over how other companies operate we wouldn't feel comfortable sending you to someone else for help. Our best advice is to seek a referral on a reputable site with accredited companies like the Better Business Bureau.

How quickly do permit-required repairs get fixed?

Due to the City of Austin's policies, the city permitting process can be difficult to get done quickly. In most cases these jobs will take several days to complete from time the permit is issued to the time the permit is passed by the city inspector on site. A better estimate-of-completion can be given once the project is scheduled, but please expect 5-14 days for the permits to clear the city offices.
